Rock around the clock at Galadari
The lobby area of Galadari Hotel has now become the centre of attraction with the performances of top musicians and professional dancers. All seven days of the week are filled with the cream of Lanka’s best entertasiners . Mondays and Thursdays dedicated to the dancers from the ‘Uppekka Dance Troupe’ from 8.00 to 9.00pm. ‘Nalin and the Star Combination’ comes alive on Tuesdays ,while the band Heat performs on Wednesdays and Thursdays. ‘Bottom Line’ comes alive on Sundays and Claude’s Classics Combo performs on Saturdays. Friday is the day for keyboard wiz Dilup Gabadamudalige.

‘Bottom Line’ is a five piece band, who have just returned from Maldives, after a permanent employment for a long period of time. The band has been in the music scene for more than eight years.‘It is our practice and hard work that has helped us to achieve many goals in our lives. Together with the experience and talented musicians as a team we try to fulfil the needs behind the valued guest’s requests.’ said the leader Nilan Perera.

They play a wide range of music from oldies to latest. ‘Singing has been very effective as everyone sings in the band and it has helped us to provide a variety of songs with different voices. We understand the need behind the requests of guests and we fulfill them to make him/her a satisfied guest. Therefore we don’t stick to one type of music as we have to provide a variety of songs.’ he explains. The band Heat consists of six experienced members, who has performed in many foreign countries.

“We play a wide range of music from English, Sinhala, Tamil, Spanish to Arabic. Oldies from 70’s to 90’s are our top priority. Chayan Fernando who played for the popular band ‘Back Stage’ is also playing with us.’ leader of the band said. The band will be seen at many places such as the Rotary and Bradby dances in July and August.

The popular band “Nalin and The Star Combination” have been performing at the Galadari hotel for over 15 years. ‘We started to perform at Galadari in 1988. It includes many successful New Years eve Dances as well.

I think performing at one place for the last fifteen years is a great achievement.” said Nalin. The secret behind their success is the type of music they play. With extremely wide repertoire that stretches from contemporary chart hits, to the golden oldies they have given their audiences many moments of happiness. The many years of experience, here and abroad, speak for their success as a super combination.

Apart from the regular gigs, they are busy working crowded schedules playing for weddings, dances, get-togethers and for many leading events. The band comprises Nalin Fernando - leader (guitar/vocals), Shirmila Fonseka - (vocals) and Dilantha Silva - (Keyboards/vocals)
Claude Fernando, who performs on Saturday, is a award winning pianist and music director.

His classic cocktail Combo performs thousands of hits from 20’s to 60’s including the best hits of Hollywood and Broadway, bringing back nostalgic memories of happy moments, through songs that you never thought you’d ever hear again.
