Kingswood edge out St. Anthony's
Kingswood 8 SACK 6
By Aubrey Kuruppu
Kingswood edged out St. Anthony's by 8 points (a try and a penalty) to 6 (1 penalty, 1 drop goal) in a lack-lustre game at Nittawela that only came alive in the last few minutes. At lemons, the losers led 6-3.

Eranda Weerakody put the winners in the lead early on by converting a penalty. Riyal failed to equalize with offering that came his way. Two penalties later he converted to tie the score. Weerakkody drove the Antonians back with some booming kicks. The first half ended with the Antonians exerting pressure on Kingswood in the latter's 22. A long kick by Riyal took play there and when the ball came his way, finding him well placed, he dropped a nonchalant goal to give his side the lead.

The second half started with Weerakkody missing a sitter of a penalty. On one of the few occasions that Kingswood worked their line, a stray pass deprieved them of a certain try.

Not long after the Antonians were penalized near their line. Off an ensuing short tap scrum half Heshan Premaratne crept through a defender;s legs to score the only try of the match. This try went unconverted.

The Antonians tackled their opponents fiercely and fly half Marija was not his usual self, fumbling a couple of passes and finding it difficult to outwit the defence.

Weerakkody had a mixed game, while Premaratne and Achala Perera, the No 8, were in the thick of things. The game rarely touched great heights of excitement and this is reflected in the final score-line.

Referee Aruna Rankothge
