Zum : Russian food and dance in town
Zuma (to be pronounced Zeema), Sri Lanka’s first Russian Restaurant and Bar officially opened its doors last week. Designed to the theme of “Winter”, ice blue floors and stark white decor combined with careful lighting create an ambiance of subtle elegance and winter wonderland in the heart of Colombo.

The cuisine is “Russian home cooking and is authenticated by Russian chefs of international repute. Classic Russian soups from “Borsh” to “Shee” are described in a menu that is both Russian and English while signature dishes such as “Golubstl” and Russian-style “Escalope” will soon become ZUMA favourites. Dining is for 20 and the entire area may be booked for private dining in advance.

ZUMA strives to make its clientele feel like “Guests in a Russian home” and the hospitality extended is as fine as the cuisine. The main foyer is converted into a tasteful lounge with plush white sofas that are as elegant as they are comfortable.

A separate adjacent bar area is certain to attract the weekend partygoers and the very interesting red-brick “Kremlin” pays tribute to Russian leaders such as Lenin while accommodating a pool table for entertainment. Frozen vodka and exclusive cocktails created and served at ZUMA Bar are hard to resist and sure to prove popular with the after-work crowd at 6 pm while seasoned veterans may carry on till the early hours.

And that is not all, Russian dancers were flown in from Moscow last week to perform at ZUMA and will be the first of many examples of imported entertainment ZUMA has on offer. Following traditional Russian “Tance”, highly skilled beautiful dancers from Mother Russia will perform intermittently to keep guests glued to their seats.

ZUMA is a joint venture by Managing Director Svetlana Kuzina and a local investor. Open every evening and charging Rs. 1000 cover charge for gentleman that is worth every penny, a definitive piece of Russia has arrived at No. 19, Union Place. ZUMA is completely different and here to stay.
