Spa break for busy people
By Esther Williams
As our world becomes busier, we need to take time out to relax and recharge our batteries. Well-known hair and beauty expert Ramani Fernando’s treatment rooms at City Spa (JAIC Hilton) are designed to do just that – revive your senses.

The cool water cascading into a rock garden at the entrance is certainly inviting. Beauty oils, aromatic candles and cinnamon sticks attractively arranged in the display area give you a hint of what to expect. A few steps into the salon and you are greeted with soft lighting and music that draws you into the tranquil atmosphere.

“Busy professionals – both men and women - do not have time for lengthy procedures,” Ramani explains of this second spa she has opened, apart from her seven beauty salons. “It is for them that we offer two hours of relaxation in the heart of the city.”

The aromatherapy spa body treatments include care for aches and pains, circulation, cellulite, fatigue, and even a unique ‘Jet Lag Reviver’. In addition clients can have a head and shoulder massage and a variety of detoxifying and body firming treatments.
Essential oils such as basil, juniper, lavender and marjoram, amongst others, known for their soothing and relaxing properties are used in the aromatherapy treatments. These have been blended to help balance mind and emotions, which so often take the brunt of stressful lifestyles.

Ramani has carefully selected products that combine the therapeutic benefits of spa treatments, aromatherapy and skin care. As such, at the City Spa they use some of the finest professional products that combine Algo therapy and Aromatherapy for head to toe refining.

Each treatment room and steam room has its own lighting and music controls, which allows the therapist to create an atmosphere to suite the client’s mood. Should a client feel the need for reflexology, an ancient oriental method of massage in which pressure is applied to different points of the feet that correspond to individual parts of the body, a one-hour session is offered. This technique is known to drain away stress and tension and restore the natural flow of energy in the body.
