Travel from your desk

A local E-business com pany with its experience of the Internet has built a travel site, which offers a new concept in travel planning to the Sri Lankan traveller. helagaman.com this month launched an Internet website coupled with a ground station.

helagaman.com offers the local and foreign traveller the expediency of planning their holiday and selecting their hotel from the convenience of their own office or home via the Internet.

helagaman.com consists of two main sectors, with the so-far larger element consisting of descriptions of over 100 locations of tourist interest, everything from ruins to wildlife reserves to waterfalls. They also give up-to-date information on over 150 towns in Sri Lanka.

It is intended to be a comprehensive travel site, providing everything from the distance and information on interesting places to visit on the way, to information on where to go and what to expect when you reach your final destination. It is also a good reference source to schoolchildren, with lots of little known facts about our country.

The second part of helagaman.com, and the more important to the travel industry, is the hotels database. This database gives a complete list of all hotels, guest houses and bungalows registered with the Ceylon Tourist Board along with address, phone and star classification.

Create your own family

Ever feel like the reality of life is letting you down, then Sims just might just be the game for you. This is not a beat-em-up, strategy or simulation game (I don't know what category it belongs to). This is probably the only one of its kind.

The characters in Sims are called Sims and they live in families in houses in a neighborhood. In fact they are very complicated creatures.

To start with you have to select a family. If you are not satisfied with the default family, you can create your own custom families. (Here's a neat trick, which will make the game more fun; create Sims in different families of your family and friends)

Your family is provided with $20,000 to buy a house and furnish it.

There are 5 houses to choose from, but unfortunately only 2 fit your initial budget. You can later shift to more prestigious locations once you've earned more money.

Once you've bought a house, you have to furnish it. But keep in mind that you have to first buy the things that fulfil the Sims basic needs such as bathroom equipment, beds, a fridge etc. Once you've finished with that you can move your Sims into your house. The next thing you probably have to do is find a job for your Sims. You can find a job via the newspapers or a computer.

Sims can interact with each other by talking, complimenting, joking, etc and can build friendships and even relationships, but if you take other Sims for granted, you can even make some pretty bad enemies.

Each Sim has skills that need to be developed into order to get promoted in their jobs, cook meals or even repair things. This can be achieved by reading books to improve cooking and mechanical skills, practising speeches to improve charisma and working out to improve body skill.

Sims have needs such as energy, fun, social, bladder, room and hygiene which if not fulfilled will get them in a really bad mood.

These are just the basics of this great game. If you haven't played it yet, well, what are you waiting for? But be careful, because this game can be extremely addictive.
