Here comes the bride

By Yvonne Gulamhusein
Ramani and Anuruddha Ratwatte hosted a dinner reception at their residence to welcome Ramani's daughter Radhika and her husband Janitha who were married in the United States some months ago.

The young couple made their entrance to the throbbing beat of magulbera, heralded by Kandyan dancers. An imposing marquee had been set up in the beautifully illuminated garden, where the huge trees had been decorated to create a fairyland appearance. The marquee was itself elegantly done with its supports swathed in yards of yellow net, mingled with yellow roses and trailing ivy. The colour scheme was entirely co-ordinated in silver and yellow.

The bride was radiant in a gold embossed saree draped in Kandyan style. She wore heirloom jewellery of gold peththi mala and kara patiya studded with rubies and matched with earrings, bracelets and a head ornament.

Ramani Ratwatte was the picture of elegance in an exotic emerald green silk and gold brocade Kandyan saree. She wore an emerald pendant on a gold lasso with matching earrings and a Kandayn heirloom gold bracelet.
