Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau wins building contract for Nat. College of Tech Education
View(s):The Cabinet has accepted the proposal to award the construction contract of the National College of Technology Education to the Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau.
This decision was announced by Transport, Highways and Media Minister Bandula Gunawardena in the weekly Cabinet briefing held on October 11. He said the Cabinet had accepted this proposal presented by Education Minister Susil Premajayantha.
The Cabinet of Ministers had granted approval for the construction of a National College of Education of Technology at Narangalla in Kuliyapitiya on January 18, 2017, with the aid of the Korean government and the local funds.
Minister Premajayantha said the construction did not take place at the time as there was a lack of practical knowledge in technology among teachers.
He added that he had gone to Japan as the Education Minister then, and had obtained aid to establish an institute to train teachers in technology. The institute was to be built in Homagama, but the land was not given by the Land Minister at the time.
Consequently, it was decided to build the National College of Technology Education in Kuliyapitiya, and the project was assigned to the Korean International Cooperation Agency, but the work on the project was constantly delayed. It was then decided to be hand over the project to the Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau, the Minister said.
