Grade 10 students will be introduced to the Artificial Intelligence as a subject from next year onwards Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said recently.

He made this statement at a ceremony where cooking equipment was handed over to selected schools in the Colombo zone which were facing the malnutrition issue. He also said Sri Lanka must aim for “educational transformation” beyond “educational reform” in accordance with UNESCO reports.

The Minister said teachers should also be trained on AI technology and this system should be extended to the university system through schools.

AI is a function where machines are granted the ability to possess human intelligence and cognitive functions such as learning and problem solving.

Moreover, to protect the youth the Minister hoped to prevent unsuitable food items and other material entering schools, by holding an awareness and training workshop for teachers, and using these teachers as advisers in schools. They would be trained and supported by experienced advisers in the divisional secretariats.
