Senior journalist Jayampathy Jayasinghe attached to the Business Desk of the Sunday Times, passed away on Thursday morning. He was in his mid-70s.

Jayampathy had a long career in journalism, joining the now defunct Sun newspaper in 1985 after a stint in the Police from which he retired as an Inspector after serving in the East during the separatist insurgency and also with the Tourist Police.

He also worked for a brief spell at Associated Newspapers (Lake House) before joining the Sunday Times some years ago.

A disciplinarian to the core with a strict set of values, Jayampathy was affable, counted many friends in the media and in the sectors that he covered as a journalist. His last assignment was covering an event organised by the Chartered Accountants of  Sri Lanka on Wednesday evening at Monarch Imperial, Sri Jayawardenepura.
