The treat of retired greats of the game returning to action at the Road Safety World Series (RSWS) will start next Saturday (10) with a power packed team of veterans to legends skippered by Tillakaratne Dilshan leaving tomorrow for another bid at the clash of the retired stars.

For former captain Dilshan, turning 46 next month, this would be the second straight occasion he would be skippering the team, featuring a number of stars, including greats Chaminda Vaas and Sanath Jayasuriya, to name a few.

This time around, Thisara Perera, Dilruwan Perera and Isuru Udana, who all quit the game last year, are some of the latest additions. However, country’s best left-arm spinner, Rangana Herath, would be missing out due to his duties with the Bangladesh team as their spinning coach. Cricketer turned commentator Russel Arnold would also be skipping owing to his commentating stint at the ongoing Asia Cup. In the inaugural edition last year, team Sri Lankan Legends fared fabulously well finishing as runners-up to host India, losing by 14 runs.

Sri Lankans are expected to open their account either on the opening day or exactly in a week, though the opposition are subject to confirmation. The RSWS, aimed at promoting road safety in India, where it’s set to start next week, will also raise the road safety significance around the world.

The tournament of highly acclaimed players will be worked off at Kanpur, Raipur, Indore, and Dehradun while the knockout matches and the final will be hosted at Raipur. The eight-team tournament to be run from September 10 to October 1, will see New Zealand legends making its debut, as the eighth and final team.

Sri Lanka Legends Squad:
Tillakaratne Dilshan (Capt), Sanath Jayasuriya, Chaminda Vaas, Nuwan Kulasekara, Dhammika Prasad, Upul Tharanga, Thisara Perera, Jeewan Mendis, Chamara Kapugedara, Chamara Silva, Kaushalya Weeraratne, Mahela Udawatte, Asela Gunaratne, Dilruwan Perera, Dilshan Munaweera, Chinthaka Jayasinghe, Chathuranga de Silva, Isuru Udana, Ishan Jayaratne, Rumesh Silva
