Sri Lankan women netballers started their Asia Netball Championships title defence in style by beating India heavily to 102-14 last evening at Singapore.

Led by Gayanjali Amarawansa, the defending champions dominated the match throughout and earned the best possible start.

In each of the four quarters, the Lankan lasses managed to score head and shoulders above their Asian neighbours, and thereby, easily enjoying a thumping win.

At the end of the opening quarter, they were already ahead at 34-2. That was only the beginning as they propelled unstoppably to 58-3, 79-10 and eventually wrapping the game at 102-14.

The islanders, grouped in ‘A’, alongside Philippines and India, will be meeting the latter tomorrow in their second match.

The tournament also serves as a qualifier for the 2023 Netball World Cup.
