The 101st Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Mallika Nivasa Samithiya (Society) Ltd. was held on Wednesday (24) at its headquarters in Bambalapitiya. The society which celebrated its centenary last year is among the oldest social service organisations in Sri Lanka and was started by Mallika Hewavitarne, mother of Anagarika Dharmapala to house homeless women. It now runs a children’s home and a Boys Development Centre in addition to a home for the elderly women.

Consultant Paediatrician at the Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital Dr. Priyani Pethiyagoda was the Chief Guest at the AGM and delivered the keynote address. Director of the Western Province Social Services Department Sewwandi Hettiarachchi was the Special Guest.

Ms Aruni Seneviratne was re-elected President of the society for another term at the AGM. Picture shows her presenting a token of appreciation to a child from the Parakrama Boys Development Centre who had been appointed a Head Prefect of his school.
