The Education Ministry is making preparations to provide free text books to Govt. school students for the year 2023.

For this purpose advertisements have been published calling for tenders among qualified printers.

The Ministry also offered to facilitate the process of obtaining raw material for printing for the printers who would be awarded the contract.

Accordingly around 4.3 million school children studying from grade one to 11 would be eligible for the free text books.

The programme that began in 1980 under the free education programme faced a snag over the last two years due to the dollar crisis that prevented the importing of printing material and paper for printing.

As a result, the Education Ministry made most text books available online with students and teachers using the internet to refer their lessons. -CC
