Women reach quarters; Men eliminated

Sri Lanka’s Men’s 3×3 basketball team crashed out from qualifying  from the main tournament after a win and a loss against Tonga and China,  and the Women’s with the same results versus Turkmenistan and Chinese  Taipei qualified for the quarter-final, in the ongoing FIBA 3×3 Asia  Cup, at Marina Bay, Singapore.

The Men’s, needing to prove themselves by qualifying through the  qualifying round, were off to a touch-and-go start after scraping  through Tonga by only two points. The final score of their opening match  read 21-19. However, in the second and deciding match against a better  quality opponent, China, they were convincingly beaten 8-21.

In the meantime, the Women’s team, having gone straight into the  business end of the tournament, narrowly edged out Turkmenistan for  15-13, nevertheless succumbed to Chinese Taipei 12-21. The Lankan  lasses, despite a win and a loss have qualified for the quarter-final  and will be taking on Japan tomorrow at 10.15am, Sri Lankan time.
