Tilak receives UN’s Long Service Award

View(s):

Tilak Samaranayake, one of the longest serving Sri Lankans at the UN Secretariat in New York who retired last week after 33 years of service, was presented with the UN’s Long Service Award.

He worked for the Department for General Assembly and Conference Management from 1989, initially handling all the IT  functions of his department. Over the next few years, he helped the section to eliminate physical paperwork by creating programs to minimise manual handling of documents. Tilak eventually came to supervise the desktop publishing section for five years and served on the Central Review Board Panel, and supervised IT infrastructure and the Front Desk.
