Veteran Sri Lankan actress Liyoni Kothalawala who starred in a large number of films, stage plays and teledramas passed away last week. She was 78.
Kothalawala won several national awards for her acting and her long contribution to the field. In 1962, she won the Best Actress Award for her outstanding performance in the play ‘Mehew Lokaya’, becoming the first Sri Lankan stage actress to win the award. Among the teledramas she acted are ‘Kumarihamy’, ‘Charitha Thunak’, ‘Naadaayo’, ‘Vajira’ and in films such as ‘Sama’ and ‘Chandali’.
