Veteran filmmaker and producer Chandran Rutnam on Monday (20) launched his book ‘Chandran and The Rat pack’, a book about his journey in cinema and specially foreign film production in Sri Lanka.

“It’s a very unusual book because of what it is….an expose. A true story of conspiracy, greed, and betrayal during the first 25 years of the foremost film location service company that brought over 60 foreign films to location shoot in Sri Lanka,” says Rutnam who was instrumental in bringing down foreign film productions like ‘Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom’ (1984) and ‘Indochine’ (1992)’.

Having hosted numerous Hollywood films for their location shoots in Sri Lanka and Malaysia and served as the Line Producer/Production Supervisor in a number of international productions, Steven Spielberg once referred to Rutnam as “Our most valued friend in the Far East”.

Rutnam has also worked with Sir David Lean, Sir Carol Reed, John Boorman, George Lucas and Regis Wargnier. “To see someone naming names and being brutally honest about the nature of an industry that has famously been plagued with shameless clout chasing, and disproportionate appreciation of true talent means this book has already veered from the ordinary.”

At the launch held at the Joe Abeywickrema Centre on the National Film Corporation, Rutnam handed over a copy of the book to Culture and Buddha Sarsana Minister, Vidura Wickremanayake.
