The Inter-International Schools Under 20 Netball tournament, hosted by Ilma International Girls’ School (IIGS) for the 11th consecutive year, was held on the 1st of April 2022 at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.

The event was open to all International schools that come under the International Schools of Sri Lanka (TISSL) umbrella. This year, saw the following schools participate: Colombo International School – Colombo; Colombo International School – Kandy; Gateway College – Colombo; Gateway College – Kandy; Ilma International Girls’ School; Lyceum International School – Nugegoda; Lyceum International School – Rathnapura; Lyceum International School – Wattala

The semi-final, between Ilma and Gateway – Kandy was the highlight of the tournament, which saw at close time a tie between the two schools. In the nail-biting extra time, Ilma put up a splendid performance to qualify for the finals. Gateway – Colombo beat Lyceum – Wattala to meet Ilma at the finals.

Yusra Thahir, the team captain of Ilma, stated that despite having had very little time to prepare themselves for the tournament;the encouragement and support given by the school management, the tournament organising committee and parents gave them the strength and confidence, not forgetting the guidance and motivation of coach Ms Pushpa Kumari. All of this would not have been possible without the assistance of the deputy captain Safiya Fazal and the unity and effort put in by the team.

Gateway – Colombo emerged champions while Ilma put on an excellent performance to secure the first runners- up place in the tournament. Lyceum Wattala secured the second runners up position and the plate winners were Lyceum Nugegoda.

The following players won special awards: Best Shooter – Ameena Khalid – IIGS; Best Defence–MethuliErapola–Gateway College Kandy; Best center court player – Bindhi Jayasinghe – Lyceum Wattala; Netball Queen – Onandi Samarakoon – Gateway Colombo; Spirit of the Game – Gateway College Kandy
