A racket involving the sale of organic fertiliser mixing sand and charcoal, while misusing the name of the Agriculture Department was raided by a group including the Deputy Director of Agriculture in Puttalam on Friday (13). The case was handed over to the relevant divisions for further investigation.

The fertiliser company, identified as Ulugala Organic Farm (Pvt) Limited, in front of the Norochcholai Economic Centre, was raided by Puttalam Deputy Director of Agriculture Mrs Tharangika Shamali and a group of officials when the suspects were packing the fertiliser.

In addition to this place, another location was identified near the Norochcholai Lagoon area where the suspects had stored charcoal powder, sand, salt and mud brought in claiming to make organic fertiliser, the Director of Agriculture said.

The Agriculture Department says it had not granted any approval for this particular company; however the officials found forged approval documents within the premises.

After the inspection by the Deputy Director, Director of Agriculture-Puttalam District Sarath Pathirana and officials from the Green Agriculture Implementation Centre in Puttalam District visited the site.
