All the government schools in the country will be connected with fiber optics soon. “The first project that was developed was a digital identity card with most sophisticated features and this will be issued soon although the cost was heavy. The second project we initiated was connecting and linking rural villages in the country with fibre optic technology with an investment of over millions of rupees,” said Jayantha De Silva, Secretary to the Ministry of Technology of Sri Lanka at the launch of the Green Tech, Huawei Digital Congress 2022 held at the Shangri -La- Hotel Colombo this week.

He said the third project initiated by the ministry was to introduce it to all the courts with modern video and voice technology for courts to function smoothly without any hinderance and with transparency. Another project the ministry had initiated was to establish parks with modern technology in places like Kurunegala, Galle, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Habarana. The techno parks would be having modern features like its own data centres and power with diesel tanks with 5G and 4G technology with continuous power in abundance. “We will be having swimming pools, Yoga and Meditation centres in the parks with walking and running tracks. In addition the parks will have its own generators and transformers to function smoothly. We have signed MOU’s with three of the biggest companies in the world and hope to complete it by next year,” he added.

Michael Macdonald, Chief Digital Officer and Executive Consultant, Huawei Technologies, said Huawei’s focus is regarding data foundation to bring people, businesses and organisations together. As far as the 5G technology in China in 2021-2022 is concerned there is a huge build up there and elsewhere in the world. Every year Huawei comes up with new innovation for 5G technology. Every product that is sold has an energy footprint.
