Cut down ministerial perks, and provide relief to people
The Mahanayake Theras yesterday reiterated that the Government should cut down on wasteful expenditure and perks to ministers and use that money to provide immediate relief to the people suffering from economic hardship.
The Mahanayake Theras of the Malwatte and Asgiriya chapters along with the Mahanayake Theras of the Amarapura and Rammanna nikyas in a joint statement said, “Our belief is that the current crisis could be resolved only by proper management of finances, elimination of corruption and spending only on projects that are beneficial to the public.”
They pointed out that the unbearable high cost of living was the reason for the current socioeconomic crisis. The Mahanayaka Theras also called on the people to act with restraint.
The statement was signed by Malwatta chapter Mahanayake Ven. Thibbatuwawe Shri Siddartha Sumangala Thera, the Asgiriya Chapter Mahanayake thera Ven. Warakagoda Dhammadissi, the Amarapura Nikaya Mahanayake Thera Ven. Dodampahala Shri Chandrasiri and the Rammanna Nikaya Mahanayake Thera Ven. Makulewe Shri Wimalabidhana.
