CEB appoints consultants with monthly pay of Rs. 1 million each
The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) directors have decided to appoint with immediate effect former Power Ministry Additional Secretary Dr. Susantha Perera and former General Manager M. R. Ranathunga as consultants with monthly salaries and allowances of Rs one million each.
The decision was taken on the instruction of Power Minister Gamini Lokuge, the Sunday Times learns.
These two officers are required to report directly to the CEB Chairman.
Accordingly, they will receive their last drawn monthly salary as an allowance, transport facilities with driver, technical and clerical staff and office space.
The position has been created for the first time in the CEB.
The request submitted to the Director Board by CEB Chairman M. C. Ferdinando was granted approval on January 24 .
The board paper seen by the Sunday Times says,“The Chairman mentioned that the Hon. Minister requested him to consider employing Dr, Susantha Perera as a consultant to the Chairman and the Board on policy matters relevant to the implementation of Transmission Development Programme in line with the ongoing programme of absorption of 70% Renewable Energy to the system and also to ensure implementation of Government decisions accordingly”.
It also states: “In addition, it was mentioned the desire of Hon. Minister to obtain the service of M.R. Ranathunga who was the General Manager prior to 13.01.2022 also as a consultant to the Chairman and to the Board to assist on Policy and Implementation related matters on the Renewable Energy target of 70%, in keeping with Government policy decisions, if the Board desires to do so”.
As mentioned in the board paper, two officers have been appointed to their posts on a renewable one-year contract.
