No access to public places, if you are not fully vaccinated

Those who failed to be “fully vaccinated” against COVID-19 will not be allowed to access public places including public transport from April 30 onwards, the Health Ministry said in a gazette notification.

The Government in a separate circular has given the definition of “fully vaccinated persons”.

Accordingly, if the booster dose is not taken after three months since the second dose of COVID-19 vaccine had been obtained, they will not be considered as fully vaccinated.

They will be considered as ‘fully vaccinated’ only two weeks after they take the booster dose.

If infected with COVID-19 after being vaccinated with two doses of the recommended vaccine, the booster dose can be administered after one month of infection provided that person has completed three months after the second dose in order to be considered as fully vaccinated.

For children to be considered as fully vaccinated, those who are 16-19 years old should have taken two doses and completed two weeks after the second dose while 12-15 years old ones need to take a single dose and should have completed two weeks after the single dose.

Persons, unless exempted by the proper authority, will not be allowed to enter public places without having the proof of being fully vaccinated against the virus, according to the Ministry of Health.

The Extraordinary gazette issued by Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella to introduce fresh regulations under Quarantine and Prevention of Disease Ordinance indicated that the Ministry, from time to time, can determine the proof of being fully vaccinated, exceptional circumstances to exempt a person from vaccination and teh age group eligible to receive the vaccination.

Such determinations, introduced under sub-regulations of the Ordinance will be made public in the future, the gazette said.

In another circular issued last Thursday under the title of “Exit strategy for COVID-19 patients and contacts’, the Health Ministry defined what ‘fully vaccinated’ means.

Following the gazette notification issued yesterday, there was a slight increase in the number of people lining up at the vaccination centres across the island.
