Avishka Fernando, who is named in the 18-man squad for the Zimbabwe series, has tested positive for Covid-19 yesterday, risking his chances of playing during the home series. Sources said that Fernando missed the mandatory 2km run yesterday as an Antigen test has returned positive. A PCR test has been conducted with results pending.

Meanwhile, the national players who took part in the 2km fitness test has achieved the benchmark given with some players even running it under 8 minutes. The new benchmark for the 2km is set at 8.10 minutes with a tolerance level of 8.35. Kusal Mendis, who is allowed to return to international cricket after his ban was lifted on Friday, had completed the run impressively, running under 8 minutes along with Dinesh Chandimal. Danushka Gunathilaka however had skipped the test.
