Federation Internationale De L’Automobile (FIA), the largest motoring organisation in the world, held its Annual General Assembly followed with prize giving in Paris during mid-December. Dhammika Attygalle, the President, and Devapriya Hettiarachchi, the Secretary, of the Automobile Association of Ceylon (AAC) attended the Assembly representing Sri Lanka.

At the Assembly, Mohammed Ben Sulayem of the UAE was elected President for the next four years. This decision was well supported by AAC from the inception for his candidature. He was the first non-European to hold this post.

He received two third majority against his rival Britain’s Graham Stoker. Sulayem replaces Jean Todt who stands down after 12 years at the helm.
