Sri Lanka is currently experiencing mixed weather conditions with Ratnapura recording 33.7 degrees. The prevailing hot weather in the country will continue until March, the Department of Meteorology says.

Duty Meteorologist, Harith Fernando said the condition is due to increase in temperature and low humidity.

This is the weather pattern that occurs as the north east monsoon approaches.

Moisture-laden winds will blow inland bringing light showers in some areas while cold nights and mornings can be expected.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern, North-central, Eastern and Uva provinces and in the Matale and Nuwara Eliya districts, the Met Department said.

Evening and night showers or thundershowers will occur in several parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces and in the Kandy district too.

Fairly heavy showers of more than 50 mm can be expected at some areas in the Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Kalutara, Galle and Matara districts.

Morning mist can be expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Galle and Matara districts, the Met Dept. said.
