China – The authorities are locking down cities and also provinces amid local cases of a spread of Omicron, in pursuit of their ‘Zero COVID’ policy. This stringent policy has resulted in increasingly strict border controls, quarantining measures and frequent lockdowns across the country.

Netherlands – The country has gone into a strict lockdown in the light of Omicron’s spread.

United Kingdom (UK) – WithOmicron accounting for around 60% of COVID-19 cases, further restrictions are being discussed.

Germany – The authorities here added UK to its list of areas with “variants of concern”. This means that only German citizens and residents will be able to enter the country from the UK. Private gatherings have been limited and clubs closed. Unvaccinated people are also being restricted from public spaces.

France – Large outdoor events and gatherings on New Year’s Eve have been banned and officials have warned the people that Omicron will become the dominant variant by early 2022.

Italy – Rome is among several Italian cities that have decided to cancel New Year’s festivities over coronavirus concerns.

Israel – A government panel of experts has recommended a 4th dose of a COVID-19 (Pfizer) vaccine for all people aged over 60 and healthcare workers. The thinking is that it would help the country get through a potential wave of Omicron.

India – NewDelhi banned both Christmas and New Year gatherings and unvaccinated people will not be able to use public transport in the city of Haryana.
