Death of veteran journalist: Editors’ Guild issues condolence message

The Editors’ Guild of Sri Lanka has issued a condolence message on the death of veteran journalist M.V. Kanamaylnathan.

The Guild in a statement said that Mr Kanamaylnathan, who passed away last week, served bravely during the conflict in the north while also giving guidance to journalists,

Mr Kanamaylnathan was editor of the northern based Uthayan newspaper after joining the newspaper in 1985, the statement said. He also worked at the Dinapathy and Veerakesari newspapers.

In recognition of his services he was presented with the prestigious Long and Distinguished Service Gold Medal Award at the 2009 Journalism Awards for Excellence programme jointly organised by The Guild and the Sri Lanka Press Institute.

Under his stewardship the Uthayan newspaper also received the Sepala Gunasena award for Courageous Journalism.
