Children in Lockdown Arts Festival, a novel initiative to connect artistes, children and adults to reflect on the treatment and experiences of children in Sri Lanka during the pandemic will be held from November 26 to 29.

This virtual art festival is to highlight artworks and conduct workshops and it will include panel discussions on the issues faced by children and families during the pandemic.

The festival will bring artists, children and childcare professionals to one platform to directly address a range of pandemic related themes – from online schooling to the changes that occurred in our homes, from domestic violence to digital wellbeing, from health-care challenges to special needs challenges.

Many of the much-talked-about and some of the hardly-talked-about issues will be brought to light through artworks and discussions.

The artistes who conduct the festival include Tasmin Anthonisz, Pathum, Dhar marathna, Yasas Gunaratne, Nadaraja Manivanan, Inoka Palliyaguru, Shavindri Peiris, Urvi Perera, Umeshi Rajeendra, King Ratnam, Irfan, Isabel and Lucky Sadiq, Ramithu Lithum Sellahewa, Leeth Singhage, Enceletta Solomon, Natalie and Shayne, Kasun Thiwanka, Sulo and Weere and Aranga Tholargal.

Artist curators are Malith Hegoda and Ruwanthie de Chickera while the festival will be directed by Piumi Wijesundara.

The child artistes are part of the Mentorship Programme, in which they work on their creative

work under the guidance and mentorship of renowned creative artistes such as Evan Ekanayake, Ameena Hussein, Shaanea Mendis, Bhoopathy Nalin and Prashani Rambukwella.

At the festival we will have artists, children and child-care professionals directly address a range of pandemic related themes – from online schooling to the changes that occurred in our homes, from domestic violence to digital wellbeing, from health-care challenges to special needs challenges. Many of the muchtalked-about and some of the hardly-talked-about issues will be brought to light through artworks and discussions.
