The strongest Industry linked MBA in Sri Lanka – The Staffordshire University MBA at Asia Pacific Institute of Technology( APIIT), had the privilege of hosting the CEO of the Colombo Stock Exchange Rajeeva Bandaranaike to discuss the ‘implications of the pandemic on the stock market’ last week at the weekly “APIIT MBA Diaries”

An interesting discussion point was that was shared by Mr. Bandaranaike was that if one examines the pre 2009 era, the All share price index( ASPI) was hovering around 1000-3000 points. Today, the rage is between 5000-7000 which means that more companies are delivering returns that are attractive and more people are also interested in investing to earn the returns. It is only a matter of time that we cross the 10,000 barrier and it will be happen. The question is when said Bandaranaike. A industry veteran in Sri Lanka he has served in an array of senior management positions at CSE in the areas of trading, Clearing, Settlement, branch development, Marketing, HR  initiatives whilst also serving on two listed companies in a 30 year career in the financial services industry.

Interviewed by former Sri Lanka Export Development Board  Chairman Dr Rohantha Athukorala at the APIIT MBA Diaries webinar, Bandaranaike went to say that it was nice to see almost fifty percent who trade are below thirty five years and it means that youngsters are having the entrepreneurial mind set. What is important is to work on the fundamentals when investing in the share market than sentiments he said. If you look at investors and their preference their focus, people like to invest in companies that conform to social, environment and good Governance practices said Bandaraike on a question asked by an MBA student on good governance and sustainability.

APIIT has staged top business personalities weekly to address the country via the “ APIIT MBA Diaries” which so far Included personalities such as Global branding guru Simon Anholt, Unilever Chairperson Hajar Alifafi, Ambassordor to China Palitha Kohonna, Nestle MAnaging Director Fabrice Cavallin and very recently the Sri Lankan Ambassordor to Belgium, Luxembourg and Head of the Mission to European Union Grace Asiriwathan.
