Last week, the Education Forum Sri Lanka (EFSL) said the teachers’ demand for a revision of their salary anomalies was justified.

It was about time the Government paid heed and rectified their salary revisions, outstanding for the last 20 years, EFSL said in a statement.

It called on the Government to appoint a team of knowledgeable officials to prepare a salary structure that would be compatible with salaries of like professions in the public sector.

It also urged that the teachers be paid an interim allowance for online teaching being done using their resources.

The suggestion also includes a timeline being drawn on swiftly addressing their grievances and vaccinating them all so that they are ready when schools will reopen.

The 241,000 teachers serving in state schools countrywide have withdrawn from online teaching for over a month demanding for salary revisions.
