The Education Ministry issued a gazette notification amending the minimum entry qualifications to allow students with alternative qualifications to follow engineering degree courses at the SLT Campus in addition to the existing mandatory requirement of three simple passes in physical science stream at GCE Advanced Level (A/L) examinations.

The gazette issued by the outgoing Education Minister G.L. Peiris early this week noted that under the newly amended regulations, students can enroll to degree programmes titled Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Engineering in Electronics and Power Systems and the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Engineering in Electronics and Telecommunications.

Accordingly, those who have completed the National Diploma in Engineering Science (NDES) in the field of power engineering from the Institute of Technology (IET) at Katunayake, or the National Diploma in Technology (NDT) from the Institute of Technology of the University of Moratuwa, or the Graduate Diploma in Electrical Engineering from the Institution of Engineers of Sri Lanka College of Engineering are eligible to continue their studies for the degree.

In order to enroll, eligible applicants are required to possess either one of the qualifications and complete all modules to fill any gap to gain the approved credits, prior to the fifth semester of the relevant degree programme. (SR)
