The postponement of practical tests for aesthetic subjects at the 2020 O/L exams will further delay exam results, a spokesperson from the main education union said recently.

Ceylon Teachers Union (CTU) General Secretary Joseph Stalin said practical exams scheduled to be held between May 18 and 31 had to be postponed because of the lockdown.

The O/L exams initially scheduled forDecember 2020 were postponed to March this year.

No dates have been set for the practical exams and it was learned that the Education Ministry is considering scrapping the practical exams altogether and releasing the O/L results.

The CTU said this cannot be allowed as it is important to hold practical tests in those subjects, as the children have to be assessed on their ability to perform their aesthetic subjects.

Around 622,000 children sat the O/L exams in March and are awaiting their results. -CC
