Tricky situation as COVID numbers increase

View(s):

With the number of COVID-19 patients surging after the Avurudu season, a dangerous situation has emerged with the country’s health system already struggling to cope with the increasing number of patients.

A Sunday Times staffer witnessed this situation firsthand recently at a major teaching hospital where, in a ward of some 40 patients, two COVID positive patients were identified within a span of two days. Both patients had been admitted to the ward and were staying among other patients when they were confirmed to have been infected with COVID-19.

These pictures show hospital staff in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) hurriedly wiping down and sanitising the bed and surrounding area one of the positive patients had stayed in.
