The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) with its affiliate agencies is accelerating efforts to attract the Diaspora, foreign investors and fund managers overseas and showcase the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) as an attractive destination.

The SEC is organising forums for investors in association with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) and the respective embassies.

Starting this Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the SEC together with the market operator, CSE were organising online forums to educate embassy staff on the attractive market valuations, the growth potential of the CSE firms and latest developments in the capital market.

A forum for the Sri Lankan embassy in London was held on Wednesday and Thursday saw the staff in Singapore join an online forum with P. M. Amza, Additional Secretary Foreign Ministry,

Viraj Dayaratne PC, Chairman SEC; Chinthaka Mendis, Director General SEC; Rajeeva Bandaranaike, CEO CSE; Nalika Kodikara, Counsellor (Commercial), Sri Lanka High Commission – UK; Tushara Jayaratne, Director External Relations and Capital Market Education SEC; Prabash Wanigatunge, Director Surveillance SEC and Niroshan Wijesundere, Head of Marketing CSE as participants.

On Friday a similar forum for the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Sweden was held. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will expand the process to at least 15 to 20 Sri Lankan embassies assisting the regulator and the CSE to organise online forums to educate foreign investors and fund managers and Sri Lankan expat community.

After this the embassies will be able to assist the SEC to promote the CSE. The UAE, China, Sweden, Japan and the Embassy in Washington, US will also join the awareness creation forums going forward.

These forums will determine Sri Lankan embassies conducting promotional activities independently on behalf of the SEC in the particular countries as well as how the resources within the foreign missions can be used effectively to showcase Sri Lanka as a destination for portfolio investments.
