Pakistan High Commissioner Major General (Retd) Muhammad Saad Khattak and Sri Lanka’s Army Commander General Shavendra Silva took part as distinguished guests at the ‘Shake Hands – 1′ joint Field Training Exercise (FTX).

The 15-day-long Gajaba Regiment (GR)-led exercise with the Pakistan Army ended on Friday at the GR Regimental Centre in Saliyapura.

The ‘Ex-Shake Hands,’ consisted of six officers and 35 other ranks from the Pakistan Army and four officers and 40 other ranks from the Sri Lanka Army. Its aim was to enhance excellent bilateral defence relations and mutually shared rich experience of the two armies against terrorism, a Pakistan High Commission statement said.

General Shavendra Silva said Pakistan had to-date remained a true friend of Sri Lanka during all its critical endeavours. He recalled Pakistan’s support for Sri Lanka against the UNHRC resolution last month.
