Voter registry ready online for scrutiny

Sri Lankans have been asked to go online at the Elections Commission website to check their name in the draft voter registry for 2020.

The site is at www.elections.gov.lk

“Those whose names are not included in the 2020 voter registry draft are eligible to make a request on or before January 19. We have given an extension for Western and Northern provinces until February 1,’’ the additional commissioner, Rasika Peiris, told the Sunday Times.

If details are missing, voters can can contact the Grama Niladhari of their respective area, or call 011-2860031, 011 2860032, 011 2860034.

“For those who are temporarily overseas and are unable to come to the country, can get a representative to visit their area Grama Niladhari and submit relevant documents such as photocopies of the National Identity Card, the birth certificate of those registered, to the relevant address in 2019,” he said.

Relevant forms such as the UE form (for those temporarily residing overseas), application for those in areas where partial resettlement took place or resettlement didn’t take place, are available on the website.

With regard to revision of electoral registers 2020, those who are residing in J/226 Naguleswaram, J/233 Kankesanthurai west, J/234 Kankesanthurai central, J/235 Kankesanthurai south, J/238 Kattuwan, J/240 Thenmalai, J/241 Varuththalaiwilan, J/242 Kurumbacity, J/243 Kurumbacity east, J/244 Vasavilan east, J/245 Vasavilan eest, J/246 Mailiddy north, J/248 Mayiladuthurai south, J/249 Thaiyiddy north, J/250 Thaiyiddy west, J/251 Mailiddythurai North, J/252 Palaly south, J/253 Palaly east, J/254 Palaly north, J/255 Palaly northwest and J/256 Palaly west Grama Niladhari Divisions coming under Thellipallai Divisional Secretariat, Jaffna, in KN46 Alimankada (Kandawalai DS division) and KN92 Ittavil, KN 93 Muhamalai, KN 94 Wempodukerni (Pachchilaipallai DS division) in Kilinochchi and MN 153 Mullikulam, and  Musali DS in Mannar are requested to fill the form obtained from the Grama Niladhari or downloaded from the website and submit before February 1.

Those who have lived in these divisions and are now abroad on employment/ education/ other reasons, shall also be included in the relevant application, signed by a close relative/power of attorney and handed over on or before February 1, 2021.
