An English prince, a Nauruan president, Olympians and even a war hero have joined The Gordon this past century as celebrations to recognise 100 years of international education are launched.

Jana Perera, Director of Commercial Business (International & Domestic), Gordon Institute

The Gordon welcomed its first international student in 1920, a young man from Tokyo enrolled in a wool course. Since that time thousands of students from more than 75 countries have studied at The Gordon to expand their skills in a variety of vocational occupations. Throughout the decades these have evolved from textiles and dressmaking, electrical and wireless operations, to nursing and cookery.

Jana Perera, Director of Commercial Business, international and domestic, recognises the milestone as a very proud moment in The Gordon’s history, “As part of our global vision, we are committed to creating an education practise that stands out as the best in the world by focusing on high-quality training and exploring new opportunities for growth.”

The Gordon recently partnered with the Chongqing Centre for International Education Exchange to deliver teacher training to over 50 vocational colleges and schools in China.

Over the years The Gordon has offered domestic students the opportunity to travel internationally to gain memorable experiences via study tours and participate in WorldSkills Competitions allowing to experience new cultures and develop skills excellence.

“We look forward to welcoming international students and partners as we continue our global vision of strong partnerships, student exchange and industry engagement”, stated Ms Perera.

As The Gordon reflects on 100 years of delivering international education to students across the globe the history books reveal a rather interesting timeline of events. From hosting Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester and third son of George V in 1934, to more recently celebrating graduate Shokoofeh Azar’s shortlisting for the Stella Prize, a major literary award.
