Music has always played a huge role in the lives of the members of ‘Sanskrit’, a local band that’s currently making waves in the music industry. It was this passion they shared that in fact brought them together.

We caught up with the ensemble this week, who gave us an insight into their music.

Sanskrit is more renowned as an ancient language. But to the band itself, it symbolises the fact that though they may be a band of today’s day and age, they still value the old school music that shaped the industry.

The concept “Sanskrit” was established with the intention of including the influence of a variety of genres that covers both western, classical and fusion  music. In fact this boundless passion to  experiment with music is shared amongst the members. Their lineup includes Waruna Gunathilaka on the keyboard, Guyrika Weerasinghe on drums,   Don Gayan on Lead Guitar, Randika Silva and Achinthya Wijesinghe on vocals and Kusal Senevirathne on Bass.

The guys firmly believe there are no limitations in music and cover a range from western, classical and Sri Lankan pieces. They look forward to adding new dimensions that bring in novelty to  music by discovering the depths of various tones and tunes that emanate from their different inspirations.

With such an ambition in mind, they are currently working towards releasing their own originals in the near future .

Their practice sessions typically include the guys jamming around, which would then lead to a creative output. In that process every band member would put in their effort to smooth out the final track, whilst also ensuring that it captures the energy of ‘Sanskrit’.

As any band would, Sanskrit also enjoys their live performances. The guys tell us they love to interact with the crowd and feel that energy roll on the stage. However, things haven’t been easy with the current Covid-19 situation.  Yet, despite it being a tough run, they hope to  slowly get back on track and make the most of their free time to produce new and interesting music.

Sanskrit also has a few projects in store for their fans, they tease, which they hope to go ahead with in December.

“It’s going to be different and hopefully people will love them,” they share.

At present Sanskrit is in partnership with tune garage studio and sharaba productions.

They will be working on more creations and productions with them in the future.

The band will also be releasing a mashup cover this weekend, which will be accessible on their Facebook and Instagram pages.
