Blood donation is a major concern to the society as donated blood is lifesaving for individuals who need it. Blood is scarce. There is a shortage to active blood donors to meet the need of increased blood demand. Blood donation is also a therapeutic exercise.

As such, the senior graduating batches at the Win-Stone School of Culinary Arts organized an event on the 23rd of September to aid Apeksha Cancer hospital in Maharagama fill the void left by the coronavirus pandemic.

A resounding success, the school managed to exceed the drive target of the doctors and provided the community with an essential service.

There were 150 students who took part in the event from various backgrounds. Food and beverageswere provided to all those who partook in this pious offering of life saving blood to cancer patients. They also took part in a religious event to start the auspicious offerings and were provided with all necessary facilities to ensure the comfort, safety and hygiene of the brave individuals offering their life source to those in need.

The pandemic spanning 3 months left a large gap in the available blood supplies to hospitals due to the lockdown and increased restrictions on who could donate blood. Taking the initiative to be one of the first organizers of such a blood donation has been highly effective at helping bridge this lack of supplies.

All necessary precautions as provided by the public health office were followed to ensure that the donations and blood was Coronavirus-free and safe to use in blood transfusions.

The event was a resounding success as organised by the academy, Win-Stone School of Culinary Arts, alumni and senior batches of the school would be proud to have done a great service to the community and to those in need in true Sri Lankan spirit.
