The Government is considering introducing a system where the students from grade six onwards can complete modules and end their G.C.E. (O/L) exam one year ahead of the normal schedule.

Education Reforms State Ministry Secretary Upali M. Sedere said the scheme was to be introduced in 2023, after a pilot project was implemented in 100 schools, next year. Under the scheme points would be given to students every year for the modules they completed and the marks would be considered when the students reached grade ten Mr. Sedere said.

If students had obtained the appropriate number of marks in grade ten they would be able to sit the O/L exams instead of waiting for an additional year.

He also said if a student failed to complete the modules on time they would be given an additional six months time to complete them.

“The objective is to reduce examination pressure on students,” he said.

Sports would also be considered when the modules were prepared. - C
