Police are on the hunt for three more suspects allegedly involved in an armed robbery at a businessman’s residence at Akkara Panaha, Katana.

As of yesterday four suspects allegedly involved in the heist, where robbers got away with Rs 30 million in cash and gold jewellery, have been arrested in connection with the crime. Police also recovered Rs 7.2 million in cash and part of the jewellery that was stolen in a brazen daylight robbery.

The car and the motorbike used in the robbery were also traced by the police. The car had been rented from Wattala. On Wednesday, seven persons posing as CID officers had entered the residence of the businessman and had robbed the place while holding the inmates at gunpoint. The businessman and his family were forced to kneel down while the robbers walked through the house collecting cash and jewellery.

CCTV footage obtained from the businessman’s house and other residences and buildings in the vicinity enabled the Katana police to identify the number plate of the car used by the robbers and traced it to a rent-a-car company in Wattala. This led to the arrest of four suspects.
