Popular actor and film director Tennison Cooray, who has passed away at the age of 68 years, was an active member of Moratuwa Arts Forum (MAF). Born in Moratuwa on April 30, 1952, Tennison was the leading comedians in Sinhala cinema. Popular cinematographer Dinesh Priyasad discovered his hidden talents and helped him to reach the national level theatrical training in early eighties. In 1984, he joined Dinesh Priyasad to write a script for a new film. Later he got a chance to act in Dinesh Priyasad’s ‘Peralikarayo’ in 1986, and he was also the script writer for Priyasad’s blockbuster hit ‘Demodara Palama’, where he played the role ‘Vali Cooray’ opposite to Gamini Fonseka.

One of Sri Lanka’s best-known comedians, Cooray is an actor in Sri Lankan cinema and stage drama in addition to being a screenplay writer, film director, and producer.

He is best known for his comedy roles in films such as ‘Re Daniel Dawal Migel’ franchise, ‘Cheriyo’ franchise, ‘Peralikarayo’, ‘Somy Boys’, and ‘Wada Bari Tarzan’ franchise.
