Online Theatrical performance of the drama “Hidimbi- an Arrow from the Past”, by Gayathri Govind from Kerala will be on air on Facebook live at 5.30 pm on August 1.

Gayathri Govind, grand daughter of noted theatre director late Kalanilayam Krishnan Nair and Kodungallur Ammini Amma, daughter of Kalanilayam Ananda Padmanabhan, is a professional Mohiniyattom dancer who started her training in classical dance at the age of five under the Gurus Smt. Dhanya, Kalamandalam Dhanusha and RLV Sundaran.

Kalanilayam Dramas formed by late Kalanilayam Krishnan Nair in the year 1963 was phenomenal in the Kerala theatre community and has created a concept of permanent stage with revolving stage. Later after the death of Krishnan Nair, in 2003 his son, Kalanilayam Anantha Padmanabhan and the noted film actor Jagathy Srikumar revived the theatre group and recreated some of Kalanilayam’s popular dramas like the Raktharakshas, KadamattathuKathanaar etc. Gayathri is equally passionate about theatre and plays the protagonist of Kalanilyam Drama’s latest production, ‘Hidimbi-An Arrow FromThe Past’ which has been staged in and out of Kerala. Hidimbi is a two-hour long drama in which Gayathri plays the role of Hidimbi where the dialogues delivered on-stage which follows a monologue pattern. The central theme of the drama revolves around the life of Hidimbi, the wife of Bheema and how the lives of women still remain unchanged even during the modern times.

Gayathri has received several acclaims for her performance as the character Hidimbi by great artists and media as well. She is currently an active member of Kalanilayam and is conducting several workshops, seminars and performances in the field of modern theatre, Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattom. Gayathri is also the host of Kalanilayam’s new attempt since the lockdown, “Kalanilayam Live” where eminent personalities from different walks of life are invited and interviewed.

She has been associated with the Coimbatore Arts and Theatre Society with some of their dramas based on English comedies. Recently she has acted in the MyG ad directed by Mr.VKShrikumar as the wife of the complete actor,Sri Mohanlal. She is currently working as an Asst. Prof. in the Computer Science department, Amrita VishwaVidyapeetham, Coimbatore and pursuing her PhD in the area of artificial intelligence at Amrita University itself.
