Chiranthi Senanayake, who was appointed the United Nations Youth Delegate for Sri Lanka 2016/ 2017 chose Horizon Campus as her institute of choice to study for her dream career in the field of Law.

Having commenced her studies at Horizon in 2015, she completed an LLB with a Second Upper Award from the University of London offered at Horizon Campus. From there onwards she went on to complete the Attorney-at-Law professional qualification at Sri Lanka Law College and a Bachelor of Arts Degree, Specializing in Development Policy and Management Economics at the Faculty of Arts, University of Colombo.

Believing that every human being has a responsibility to impact lives and empower others and to bring a smile to those within your immediate reach so that you are part of something bigger than yourself, Chiranthi as the People and Culture Executive at Cyril Rodrigo Restaurants Private Limited, develops, maintains and supports a business partnership with the operations teams, serving as an employee advocate, cultural ambassador, subject matter expert, and consultant.

Having been selected to work with the Sri Lankan Army to conduct self-development training programmes for former LTTE women soldiers in Mullativu, an experience that fueled her interest to work in youth development with a special focus on gender equality, Chiranthi spearheads HYPE Sri Lanka, an independent volunteer run think tank dedicated towards facilitating the youth policy formulation cycle of Sri Lanka discussing policy level support for gender and sexual equality.

As Founder and President she was instrumental in leading the HYPE Sri Lanka team to initiate “Project Nexus,” which registers youth organizations across Sri Lanka and facilitate cluster based partnerships, on areas such as gender equality, human rights advocacy and women participation in politics.

Additionally, Chiranthi is Founding President of the Young Legal Professionals Association of Sri Lanka and a Consultant and Advisor for Citizens, Secretary General of The International Model United Nations.

All of these initiatives lead to her being the recipient of the Diana Award which is the most prestigious accolade one can receive for their social action or humanitarian work.

Outlining her four year journey at Horizon Campus which she states gave her the grounding that she required to commence her legal profession and social service activities, Chiranthi said, “I was fortunate to complete my LLB from the University of London at Horizon Campus, as it shaped the trajectory of my post-degree life. There are several reasons why Horizon Campus provides an all rounded Undergraduate student experience. Firstly, the friendly yet professional learning environment allows a student to receive one on one guidance from the qualified lecture staff. This allows a student to grow through the study programme and gain an in-depth working understanding of the study area. Secondly, Horizon Campus awards several prestigious scholarships to financially assist competent students. This scholarship scheme significantly reduces the financial burden inherent to following a qualifying law degree. Another notable reason is the diverse extra-curricular opportunities provided to the students that hones ones leadership qualities which provided an apt environment for me to flourish within and outside the classroom. It is with the utmost confidence that I testify to the study programmes offered by Horizon Campus for its holistic tertiary education experience. “ Horizon Campus has at present been a breeding ground for high achievers as all their  degree programmes are aimed in developing young talent to aspire in being ‘high flyers’ in their chosen industries . Chiranthi is a good example that showcases what students can achieved by the guidance received at Horizon Campus .

Dr. Ruwan Perera, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Horizon Campus, explained ‘enhancing students’ career prospects and producing prospective leaders is one of the DNA’S of our Campus. All our study courses are designed to not only gather knowledge in the respective fields of study but to also encourage independent and creative thinkers with leadership qualities.

This is one of the reasons that students from Horizon Campus are among those most targeted by leading employers. We are very proud of the achievements gained by Chiranthi and look forward to guiding may more students like her to build their skills for working their life and beyond.
