Chamara Abeyratne was in cracking form in Nuwara Eliya

Chamara Abeyratne was in cracking form winning the Sandy Perkins Cup and ending as runner-up at the Ernest Ringle Trophy Golf which was conducted by Nuwara Eliya Golf Club (NEGC) last week-end. These two events attracted more than 30 players each on both days where the tournament was conducted under tight health guidelines in the country due to the Covid 19.

On the opening day in the Ernest Ringle trophy, Rizmy Shariff edged out veteran Chamara Abeyratne. Both ended on 33 but Rizmy won on better count back. On the following day, Chamara was in sparkling form winning the Sandy Perkins Cup and getting the Nearest to the Pin award while former Trinitian, Sriharan too made his mark ending as the runner-up in the Sandy Perkins event.

Speaking to the Sunday Times, Club Golf captain, Priyanga Hapugalla said: “This event took place at NEGC after several months. Weather was good on the opening day but the second day we saw some rain. Nuwara Eliya is one of the safest places to play the game of golf. We expect large numbers for the Captains Cup which is scheduled to take place on August 15 and 16 at the same venue. Captains Cup, President’s Prize and A R Aitken Cup events will take place.”
