Schools to reopen next week for selected grades

The Education Ministry has issued guidelines for tomorrow’s (July 6) reopening of selected classes in schools. The Ministry has advised the teachers to choose appropriate methods to assess children on covering the syllabus for the 2020 academic year.

The Ministry has also said it is not necessary for all teachers to stay until 3.30 pm if the required time periods have been covered accordingly.

As requested by health officials, disinfection programmes were launched at schools to prevent spread of the virus.  School premises including classrooms had been disinfected as advised by the Education Ministry and schools should have a clear, practical procedure to follow if a patient is detected among the students.

The Ministry had informed parents to self-quarantine if their child or someone else in their home is sick with symptoms of COVID-19, as this is the best way to control the spread of virus.

Teachers must maintain a timely record in the register to indicate their time of entry into school, and if they have completed the time periods assigned to them. It is only after completing this time period that they are permitted to leave the schools.

The Ministry had also said all school extracurricular activities and sports will be forgone, as the priority right now is to cover the syllabus.
