May 12 was the 200th birth anniversary of famous nurse Florence Nightingale known as ‘the Lady with the Lamp’ for the brave work she did during the Crimean War. The nursing profession began with her. In the ongoing battle against the COVID-19 virus,  Sri Lanka’s nurses are known to be playing a major role, risking their lives and the lives of their families to treat patients. Wearing full protective gear, some of these highly trained nurses are seen with a doctor yesterday at the Intensive Care Unit at the National Institute for Infectious Diseases.
