Farmers are destroying vegetable crops in Kalpitiya in order to prepare for the next season as they are unable to find a proper market for their produce.

Capsicums, chillies, long beans, ladies fingers, beetroot, were among the vegetables that met this fate.

Yesterday, tractors were being used to prepare the fields by crushing the existing plants with the crops.

Farmers said that the maximum price offered by traders for a kilo of capsicum was Rs 20.
