UTS is keeping students on track through COVID-19

How Australia’s leading Young University remains vibrant in challenging times
View(s):

The disruptions caused by the global pandemic haven’t impeded the progress of students at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). Both UTS and UTS Insearch (the pathway to UTS) have acted swiftly to implement effective ways for students to learn from home while still enjoying sound academic structure and support.

In line with its status as Australia’s top number one young university, UTS is engaged in robust research to help in the world’s fight against COVID-19.

These efforts include a game-changing collaboration between the faculties of Science and Engineering & IT to develop a new, rapid diagnostic test, and a project with the World Health Organisation to help improve the effectiveness of their COVID-19 health communications. Leading academics from all UTS faculties have also been widely published, drawing on their research to add rigour this important public conversation.

UTS is also running an engaging series on ‘Life after Lockdown” to explore what may be changing in our lives more permanently as a result of COVID-19,  at www.uts.edu.au/news .

Supporting students in challenging times

Due to social distancing measures in Sydney with COVID-19, UTS is currently delivering most subjects online, and students are progressing well.  As expected, strict hygiene measures and social distancing are in place across the campus to keep everyone healthy, and use of the Australian Government’s COVIDSafe App is encouraged. The University is actively helping students experiencing financial hardship, establishing a Student Support Package that includes grants and loans for eligible students currently studying in Australia.

To keep its students on track with their studies, UTS Insearch, has already introduced Remote Learning – interactive classes taught in real-time, guided by teachers. These innovations have been made possible through the collaboration of highly qualified teachers, world-leading technology, and caring specialist staff in student support services. Students have already responded positively to these changes and are enjoying their virtual classes.

International Virtual Open Day

Future international students will still be able to enjoy a taste of life at university, with plans underway for an International Virtual Open Day this month. This event will include live video presentations and Q&A sessions, where aspiring students and their parents can interact with UTS staff, student ambassadors, and faculty representatives to learn about UTS courses, services and resources, and student life. There will even be the opportunity to participate in a model class. The event runs from May 25-29, and you can register at  www.uts.edu.au/future-students/international/discover-uts/uts-international-virtual-open-day .

Careers of the Future Webinar

Also taking place in May, students in Sri Lanka who are interested in Engineering or IT at UTS have an opportunity to participate in an exciting webinar, Careers of the Future, presented by UTS Insearch Sri Lanka on 14 May.

Students who wish to begin their Engineering or IT studies at the new campus in Colombo can explore various UTS degrees and courses, and experience a virtual tour of the Faculty of Engineering and IT (FEIT) campus in Sydney. Hosted by Ms Alison Hiscox, Principal, UTS Insearch Sri Lanka, the event will include presentations from leading academics from UTS and UTS Insearch, and an opportunity to meet lecturers and students from UTS Insearch Sri Lanka.   To register for the Careers of the Future webinar, please visit www.insearch.edu.lk/about/events/careers-of-the-future
